New Process Allows Mass Production Of Hair Follicle Cells For Transplants
Commercial Availability Is Expected At 2020
Researchers have developed the procedure to engineer a mass regeneration of hair, which may be commercially available in 2020. Previously, in 2012, they had cultivated humans scalp cells, producing hair follicle cells. These were transplanted to the backs of hairless mice, and hair started to grow. Recently, they have created the equipment and procedures for efficient mass production of such hair follicle cells. The hair regenerates itself after being transplanted, sustaining the hair growth cycle. The technology allows producing 10,000 strands of hair from one square centimeter of the scalp, after 20 days. They expect to begin clinical trials in 2019 in men suffering from hair loss. Click here for more info.
