3D Model Of Hair Follicles And Human Cells Will Help Obtaining A Treatment For Alopecia
Prior Drug Testing On Animals Is Not Possible Due To Physiological Differences With Humans
Alopecia is one of the most common causes of hair loss. It consists of abnormal growth or reduction of hair follicles, which might result in permanent hair loss. However, there is a very limited number of meds to treat it. The reason is that all drugs require animal experimentation before they are approved, and the differences in the immunology and physiology between animals and humans limit the success of such drugs. To overcome this, scientists have developed a 3D model of hair follicles using human cells in order to experiment upon them. These models can mimic the different stages of human hair growth and review the results of drug testing, extrapolating them to humans. Additional details click here.
